A Birthday letter from Sable - I'm two, I'm two!
Hello Mommy Andrea, bet you thought I'd forgotten my birthday!
I'm sending some photographs Dad took, 'though I don't think they do me justice - he's just so slow when he's got the camera out and he never seems to catch my good side.
I wasn't too keen on the winter - their were sheep in the fields for a couple of months and Dad wouldn't let me go and play with them in the mornings when it was dark, in the evenings we were able to walk through the field while I was on my lead and 'persuade' them all to go in one field, then we would play ball in the other - much more fun than watching stupid sheep! Now the sun gets up at a sensible time we're back to our usual routine - a half hour runabout early in the morning and then playtime when he gets home from work before dinner.
I've now got 3 or 4 pals who often come and join me in the evening. There's Bertie, he's a big fluffy golden retriever who lives right next to the field and jumps over his fence whenever he sees us and we love lots of rough and tumble, there's Tilly a black and white springer spaniel who's very sweet but not much good at playing and there's Jess and Meg. Jess is a border collie who likes to stalk me and Meg is a black lurcher - gee she's quick but one day I'll catch her. Finally there's Max the Austrian Vizsla, he's as big as me but with long floppy ears and as much slobber as you can imagine but he also loves running about, chasing and 'tend fighting.
We carried on with the open class and Fitz the leader says I've really come on, the other day I showed him my formal retrieve with my dumbell and he gave me 9.1/2 points and I've now nearly got Dad walking by the side of me perfectly - a bit more work and I'm sure he'll get really good.
Anyway, must go now as it's time for my after dinner treats, sadly more kibble but when I've finished it I always get a tripe stick, (or two if I can get Mom on her own!) and brush and comb time.
Say hi to all the family and many play bows and neck chews to Ma and Pa

A letter from Sable - one of our German Shepherd Dogs.
Hello Mommy Andrea
Sorry this is a bit late but I had a really hectic weekend what with Easter Sunday and then the Bank Holiday in honour of my birthday. Keith's god-daughter came over to see me with all her family and we had a big party in the garden. Dad cooked something he called a barbecue while I played with everybody else and then after they'd all eaten he gave me my very own bowl of chicken, it was very nice but didn't take me anywhere near as long to eat as they took, humans huh! Still, it did give them all a rest so they could play with me again - no stamina either.
Straight after Christmas I went back to training classes and took the GCDS bronze test I'd missed while I was in season, (easy peasy for a GSD even if the silly doberman struggled!) and since then we've been doing an open class with other stuff like little jumps, send aways and formal recalls. It's ok but not as much fun as chasing my balls in the fields every night when Dad gets home from work. I've also had to slow down a bit when I walk Dad along the lanes to my fields because he can't keep up with me. He's beginning to get the hang of it now and with a bit more practice I'm sure he'll be able to walk by my side all of the time.
Anyway, must get on because it's nearly time for Dad to brush and comb me. I've sent some pictures Dad took recently, much love to you and all the family, play bows and many neck chews to Ma and Pa,
Sable
PS Dad and Irene said to say hello and give you their best wishes..

A letter from Sable - one of our German Shepherd Dogs.
Hello Mommy Andrea
You should see all this wonderful white stuff we've got here in Herefordshire, it must be very fashionable 'cos all the prettiest trees and bushes are wearing it and I'm having such fun with it in the garden and in the fields where I take Keith for his walks every day.
Anyway, I just wanted to wish you and all the family a Merry Christmas, tell Ma and Pa I sent lots of play bows and many neck chews,
Sable
